Hello! My name is Beverly Umemoto. I am a graduate of the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, Philippines. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and worked in Human Resources for a couple of years with one of the prestigious motorcycle companies in Cebu City. My life changed after I saw a small advertisement in our local newspaper looking for Psychology graduates to teach children with special needs. I answered the ad, went for the interview, got offered the job, accepted the job, and loved the kids and the job! I went back to school to get a degree in Education, passed the Philippine Licensure Examination for Teachers, and then went on to enroll in the Master’s Program for Special Education.
In the year 2004, West Contra Costa Unified School District interviewed me for a teaching job in the district. I got accepted and that was when my major life adventure began. I left my beloved country, the Philippines, to teach in the USA. I got assigned to Riverside Elementary, went back to school to finish my California teaching credential, met my husband and got married, and now we have a beautiful daughter who is also studying at Riverside!
Aside from teaching and family, I also take care of two indoor cats and some outdoor ones which makes me a total cat mom!
