Mrs. Miller

Mrs. Anita Miller is a proud member of the Riverside community. She in fact is celebrating her 26th year at Riverside! She knows all about the past, present and future of the school. She has taught 3rd grade for at least the last 10 years (she’s lost track). It is her favorite grade to teach because the students come in a little scared about their learning and by the end of the year they are so proud and confident about their learning and progress. This year she will also be a site leader for our Reading and Writing programs. She not only loves to teach students but teachers as well. Her favorite subject to teach is reading. She sees so much progress in the year that it amazes her every single day.

Mrs. Miller is also a proud California native. In fact she went to West Contra Costa schools as well when she was a young student. She has lived in the Bay Area all her life and wouldn’t have it any other way. She loves the diversity of the community and all of the different things that can be done with only a short drive. She lives in Richmond with her husband Alfred, son Zack, and daughter Abby. Alfred is a teacher at Berkeley Adult school, focusing on computer skills. Most days he is Mrs. Miller’s tech advisor. Zack is starting his first year of college at Monterey Bay State. Abby is in her second year at El Cerrito High. As you get to know Mrs. Miller, you will get to know her family as well.

When Mrs. Miller is not teaching or preparing a lesson, she is reading a book or two, cooking and baking for her family and friends, or taking a walk or hike around the BayArea. She might also be in her small garden, doing a little bit of yoga, or playing with the family's three cats.

Announcements

  • Welcome Back To 3rd Grade!

I'm pleased to be your child's teacher this year. This school year we will be starting off with distance learning due to the COVID pandemic. I know this is not what we all had in mind to start the school year, but we will make the best of it.

The first two weeks of school (August 17th to August 28th) we will be getting to know each other and to build relationships. You are a very important part of your student's learning and I will need your help making sure the year gets off to a great start.

If I haven't called you on your telephone number listed in PowerSchool, then I will be doing that by Friday afternoon. These first two to three weeks I will have a lot of information for you and your student. It is VERY important that you check your emails daily to read news of the classroom. Once we have settled in I will be sending out weekly emails and messages on REMIND. More information on REMIND in a separate email.

We will meet on Monday, August 17th on the ZOOM program at 10:00am. I have attached a sheet with instructions on how your 3rd grader will login on their tablet this year. Please read it over with them the first few times. I have also attached a slide show in English and Spanish that goes over the process of logging in with more pictures and details.
In a separate email, I will be giving you and your 3rd grader their username/email and their password. Last year they were able to use a picture badge, but unfortunately not this year. Please write this information down on a piece of paper for them to use until I can give them a sheet with all login codes and passwords.

If your 3rd grader is having trouble logining, please give me a call or email. My contact information is under my picture.

I'm positive you may have more questions for me and I have many more things to tell you, but we will start with this. PLEASE contact me with ANY questions or concerns. I will be here this year to help you as much as I can. I am happy to help in ANY way possible.
