Hello Riverside Community.
My name is Ariel SteenblockSmith, but the kids call me Ms. Smith.
Beginning with inspiring teachers during my elementary school years, I gained a love for learning. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Then I explored my desire to contribute to my education community through volunteering in AmeriCorps as a Reading Intervention Tutor. While working as a Wildlife Technician studying Spotted Owls and Fishers, I was able to give talks to local elementary students about the research that I was conducting. This reminded me how much I enjoyed youth education and spurred me to enter the Elementary Credential Program at Humboldt State University.
My first three years of teaching were in a combination class of 3rd/4th grade class in Burnt Ranch Elementary School in Northern California. I moved to the Bay Area and was fortunate to find a home here at Riverside.
Over the past three years here I started and organized our school Science Fair and helped to direct the upstart Drama Club. With both of these endeavors, it was wonderful and fulfilling to see the students so engaged.
I am excited to enter into this school year with my new Second Grade class. I know that we will have fun learning, even if it will be online.
