Prerequisite: Successful completion of Chemistry and Algebra 2 or above; teacher recommendation.
Graduation: Satisfies Life Science lab requirement for UC/CSU and high school science requirement for graduation.
Description: A second-year course un chemistry, which includes topics covered in a first-year college chemistry course. Students study general chemical concepts in greater depth than in first-year chemistry, and are introduced to the most recent developments in the field. Problem solving and lab work emphasized. Students who pass the Chemistry AP exam may qualify for transferable college credit.Course ID#: 66600 / Grades: 11-12 / Course length: YearPrerequisite: Successful completion of Biology and Algebra I and teacher recommendation. It is also recommended that students be enrolled in Geometry.
Graduation: Satisfies Physical Science lab requirement for UC/CSU and high school science requirement for graduation.
Description: This is a general chemistry course dealing with the composition, structure, and properties of matter and changes it undergoes. Laboratory experimentation and problem solving are emphasized. Chemistry is a university prepare science course that prepares students for further science study.Course ID#: 66700 / Grades: 11-12 / Course length: YearPrerequisite: Algebra I with a mark of 'C' is strongly recommended
Graduation: Satisfies Physical Science requirement for high school graduation
Description: Designed to introduce students to the study of Chemistry and help prepare them to succeed in the college preparatory chemistry course. Students study elemental principles of chemistry, problem solving with an introduction to Laboratory procedures.Course ID#: 66750 / Grades: 9-12 / Course length: YearPrerequisite: NONE
Graduation: Satisfies the Physical science requirement for high school graduation.
Description: A study of the physical formation of the earth. Topics to be studied include geology, weather, astronomy, and global issues.Course ID#: ID# / Grades: 9-12 / Course length: YearPrerequisite: Algebra A with a mark of 'C' or better
Graduation: Satisfies the elective credit for UC/CSU and high school physical science requirement for graduation.
Description: The first of three sequential environmental science courses intended for three-year Environmental Studies Academy program. Course content and goals are integrated with the other Academy courses and covers fundamental principles of biology, chemistry and physics required in environmental science. There is an emphasis on environmental chemistry and mapping. Topics include water chemistry, soil structure, chemistry of metal refining, petroleum chemistry, and park design. Course requires off-campus field research trips including field investigations of Pinole Creek.Course ID#: 6721 / Grades: 10 / Course length: YearPrerequisite: Environmental Science 1 with a 'C' or better
Graduation: Satisfies the elective credit for UC/CSU and high school physical science requirement for graduation.
Description: A continuation of Environmental Science 1m this course is intended for the three-year Environmental Science Academy program. This course content and goals are integrated with the other courses in the Academy. Although many principles of biology, chemistry, and physics are covered, this course offers a concentration on the energy flow and pyramids, and ecology. Topics include community structure, bio diversity, energy flow, and pyramids and ecological productivity. This course requires several off campus field trips, including field investigation of Pinole Creek and Wetlands.Course ID#: 67230/ Grades: 11 / Course length: YearPrerequisite: Successful completion of Environmental Science 1 and Environmental Science 2 and teacher recommendation.
Graduation: Satisfies the elective credit for UC/CSU and high school physical science requirement for graduation.
Description: Designed to be equivalent to one-semester, introductory college course in Environmental science enabling students to undertake, as a first year college student, a more advanced study in Environmental science, or to fulfill a basic requirement for a laboratory science. Provides students with scientific principles, concepts, and methodologies required to understand the interrelationships of the natural world; to evaluate the relative risks associated with these problems; and to examine alternative solutions for resolving and for preventing them. There is a students designed year-long project that requires a string laboratory and field investigation component. The course is integrated with other Academy courses. Priority given to students enrolled in the Academy for placement into Environmental Science 3 AP.Course ID#: 67250 / Grades: 12 / Course length: YearPrerequisite: Algebra A with a mark of 'C' or better
Graduation: Satisfies the elective requirement for high school graduation.
Description: Assists in setting up labs, organizing storeroom and other duties as assigned by the teacher.Course ID#: 68100 / Grades: 10-12 / Course length: YearPrerequisite: Algebra 2 or higher; teacher recommendation.
Graduation: Satisfies the elective credit for UC/CSU and high school physical science requirement for graduation.
Description: Fundamental principles governing physical process in the universe. Topics included are study of motion. Newtonian mechanics, conservation of momentum and energy, thermodynamics and heat, waves, sound, light, electricity and magnetism, atomic and nucleon physics. Emphasizes conceptual understanding of principles and problem solving skills in math. For students contemplating a major in biological or physical sciences, engineering, medicine, or advanced technology, etc.Course ID#: 68700 / Grades: 11-12 / Course length: YearPrerequisite: Current enrollment in the Environmental Studies Academy
Graduation: Satisfies the elective requirement for graduation from High School.
Description: Students use and understand technical equipment and/or methods related to environmental studies. This course us separated into units, and students gain credit for each unit successfully completed. May be repeated for credit depending on the student's choice of units. Some of the available units include the following: Weather Monitoring, Recycling, Water Monitoring-Chemistry, Water Monitoring-Biological, Water Monitoring-Microbiological, Riparian Inventory, Surveying, Traffic and Road Control, and Map Making. Many units require field work and computer knowledge.Course ID#: 69700 / Grades: 10-12 / Course length: Year
