    Symphonic Band (P)

    Prerequisite: Teacher Recommendation and audition
    Graduation: Satisfies both UC/CSU elective and high school fine arts/foreign language requirements for graduation
    Description: An advanced instrumental music class. Students must be able to play their instruments with a high degree of skill. This course includes intensive practice and preparation of advanced symphonic band literature, the study of a advanced fundamentals, and the study of music style, form and history. The band will give a number of performances is expected of students in this course. Marching band may be part of this course. The music teacher can supply information about this part of the program.

    Concert Band

    Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation and audition
    Graduation: Satisfies elective and art/foreign language requirement for graduation
    Description: An intermediate instrumental music class, which is directed to incoming 9th grade musicians. Students must be able to play their instruments with an intermediate degree of skill. This course includes intensive practice and preparation of appropriate band literature, the study of music fundamentals necessary for symphonic band and the study of music styles, form and history. The band will perform for the general public and at music festivals. Small ensemble study and performance may be a part of this course. Marching band may be a part of this course. The music teacher can supply information regarding this part of the program. Attendance at rehearsals and performances is required.

    Jazz Band/Ensemble (P)

    Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation and audition; enrollment in Symphonic/Concert Band
    Graduation: Satisfies both UC/CSU elective and high school fine arts/foreign language requirements for graduation
    Description: An advances instrumental music class. The course includes intensive practice and preparation of advanced jazz band literature, the study of advanced fundamentals, jazz improvisation, and the study of jazz styles, form and history. The band will perform for the general public and at music festivals. Small combo study and performance are expected of students in this course. The music teacher can supply information regarding this part of the program. Attendance at rehearsals and performances is required.

    Beginning Piano

    Prerequisite: None

    Description: A beginning music class that includes the study of piano techniques and the fundamentals of music, including an intensive study of music reading and notation. Students in this course give one or more recitals for which attendance is required.
