    Computer Science AP (A Level) (H)

    Prerequisite: Computer Science and/or currently enrolled in Math Analysis or Computer Science, teacher recommendation
    Graduation: Satisfies UC/CSU elective and WCCUSD Computer Literacy requirement
    Description: Intended to cover the advanced programming topics and algorithms in C++, which a student would need to pass the AP exam in Computer Science . The course covers topics in data structures, analysis of various algorithms and their differing efficiencies, and various data-handling methods. Students who pass the AP exam can earn transferable college credits.

    Computer Repair/Hardware (ROP)

    Prerequisite: ( Includes sophomores who are 16 years old or will turn 16 during the first quarter ) Recommended: Algebra 1
    Graduation: Satisfies elective WCCUSD Computer Literacy requirement for graduation
    Description: Students learn to test, identify, disassemble and upgrade main parts of modern computers. They learn how to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair many hardware failures, build a working system from components, set up and modify motherboards and peripherals and configure software for optimal use. With the cooperation of business and industry, students may be able to participate in internships and job shadows and could receive practical experience at a job site.

    Computer Science 2 AP (AB Level) (H) (ROP)

    Prerequisite: Advanced placement Computer Science and/or teacher recommendation
    Graduation: Satisfies UC/CSU elective and WCCUSD Computer Literacy requirements
    Description: Covers the advanced programming topics starting with a review of classes and the merge sort algorithm. Topics proceed through the AP curriculum ending with a link-list. Students enrolled in this course will be prepared to take the AP exam(advanced version) and can earn transferable college credits.

    Photography Advanced (ROP)

    Prerequisite: Mark of B or better in Photography Beginning or consent of teacher
    Graduation: Satisfies elective and art/foreign language requirement for graduation high school
    Description: A two-dimensional art class. Designed for students seeking career ;level skills in photography and photo printing. Students are required to participate in study trips, visit professional exhibits, and complete a portfolio. Students purchase some materials for course.

    Teacher Cadet (ROP)

    Prerequisite: None
    Graduation: Satisfies WCCUSD elective credit for graduation
    Description: Teacher cadet is a year-long course open to seniors interested in teaching and other careers in education and childcare. The course involves hands-on, interactive experiences in the classroom, field trips, current educational readings and job shadowing. The highlight of the experience is a six week placement in a local elementary school where cadets apply what they have learned about teaching and child development. A bonus is that community service credit may be earned.

    Web Page Design 1 (ROP)

     

    Prerequisite: None
    Graduation: Satisfies WCCUSD elective and Computer Literacy requirement for graduation
    Description: This is a fun-filled, fast-paced project oriented class! It is designed for beginners as well as advanced computer users. Students learn to create web pages using a variety of software programs, as well as use HTML for more control and flexibility in designing web pages. Students also learn how to create their own web graphics including animated graphics. Students help to produce and maintain PVHS Web site, participate in internships and job shadows and go on study trips to technical colleges.

    Web Page Design 2 (ROP)

    Prerequisite: Web Design 1, or recommendation of teacher
    Graduation: Satisfies WCCUSD elective and Computer Literacy requirement for graduation
    Description: Students who enroll in this course manage the Pinole Valley High Web Site as well as create and design web sites for PVHS staff, local businesses, and nonprofit organizations. Students learn JavaScript as well as other advanced web page design techniques and will build a personal "e-folio" of their work. Additionally, students will create a market a product online. Opportunities to participate in internships and job shadows as well as go on study trips to technical colleges are available.

    Yearbook (ROP)

    Prerequisite: Application, interview, and consent of the instructor
    Graduation: Satisfies WCCUSD elective credit for graduation
    Description: A two-dimensional art class. Students enrolled in Yearbook Design create and produce the school annual. The student staff is responsible for publishing, planning, writing, editing copy, designing and photographing pages, and obtaining funding through book and advertising sales.
