    Studio Art (AP) (H)

    Prerequisite: Teacher approval and successful completion of Drawing, Design 1, Ceramics and/or Jewelry; submission of a portfolio, consisting of original art works as well as forty other works in form of slides.
    Graduation: Satisfies both UC/CSU elective and art requirements for graduation.
    Description: Designed for highly motivated students who are seriously interested in the study of Art and who wish to pursue college-level studies in high school. Course enables art students to conceptualize images, develop quality artwork, and choose an area of concentration. Students acquire depth and breadth of the principles and elements of art and work toward portfolio submission for advanced placement credit. This is a two year program. There may be a special art supply fee charged.

    Drawing 1

    Prerequisite: Basic Art or consent of instructor.

    Description: Drawing is explored through the use of a variety of media. The importance of drawing as a means of expression and communication is emphasized. Students draw simple objects, human figures, and pictures. Techniques include introduction to prospective and sketching. Drawing of master artists are utilized to stimulate student creativity and awareness of the range of expression possible through art. There is a material fee for this class.

    Drawing 2

    Prerequisite: Aptitude for drawing and painting. Studio behavior. Consent of instructor.

    Description: A two-dimensional art course. This course will emphasize the skills, techniques, and attitudes necessary to do graphic design and communication. Students will complete layouts for magazine and newspaper advertising, business cards and memo pads. There is a material fee for this class.

    Painting 1

    Prerequisite: Teacher approval, portfolio, any drawing class, or a mark of 'B' or better in art.

    Description: A two-dimensional art cures. Exposure to color system theories and various painting techniques, Primarily through exploration of watercolor, tempera and acrylic media. Guest artists, gallery visits, and exposure to periodicals, books, and other current media encourage appreciation of contemporary art. There is a material fee for this class.

    Description: A two-dimensional art course. This course is an in-depth study of painting using oils, watercolor,tempera, and acrostics, or mixed media. The major emphasis will center on the development of specific skills, techniques, and the inventive manipulation of the visual elements, composition, personal modes of expression and creative problem solving. Students purchase some materials in this class.

    Yearbook (ROP)

    Prerequisite: Application, interview, and consent of the instructor

    Description: A two-Dimensional art class. Students enrolled in yearbook design create and produce the school annual. The student staff is responsible for publishing, planning, writing, editing copy, designing and photography pages, and obtaining funding through book and advertising sales.

    Photography Beginning

    Description: This ia a two-dimensional art class. Students study the processes involved in taking photographs and producing finished prints. Students must own or have access to a 35 mm SLR camera. Students need to purchase materials used in this course.

    Photography Advanced (ROP)

    Description: A two-dimensional art class. Designed for students seeking career level skills in photography and photo printing. Students exhibit work in the community and at school shows. Students are required to participate in study trips, visit professional exhibits, and complete a portfolio. Students purchase some materials for course.

    Description: Ceramics 1 is a basic, exploratory course in ceramics, with emphasis on hand building techniques. Pinch, coil, slab, and slip molding methods will be explored. Introduction to wheel throwing, glazing and decorating are presented. The works of historic and contemporary ceramics artists are presented. There is a fee for materials.

    Ceramics 2

    Prerequisite: Successful completion of ceramics 1
    Graduation: Satisfies the art/foreign language requirement for graduation from high school
    Description: A three-dimensional art class, ceramics 2 explores advanced study of hand-built, thrown, and molded methods of construction with an emphasis on ceramic sculpture. Glaze making is introduced and kiln-firing procedures are taught. Students learn skills needed to manage the ceramic studio and fire the kilns. Contemporary and historical ceramic pieces are discussed and evaluated. An exhibit of each students work is required. Students purchase some materials used in this course.

    Crafts

    Prerequisite: None
    Graduation: Satisfies elective and art/foreign language requirement for graduation from high school
    Description: A three-dimensional art class. A survey class in which students will explore a variety of crafts media including ceramics, stained glass, jewelry, leather, wood, plastic, fabric art, printmaking, copper enameling, macram6, batik, etc. This course will be a foundation for students who later enroll in specialized three-dimensional classes. There is a material fee for some of the class projects. The course may be repeated once for credit.

    Description: A two-dimensional art class. The course will expose students to a wide range of printing techniques including wood and lino-cuts, relief prints, seriagraphy, drypoints engraving and etching. The major emphasis will be the development of special skills, and students will be ecouraged to eplore personal modes of creative expression, as well as the cultural and historical backgrounds of the techniques. There is a material fee.
