Algebra 1 A

Prerequisite: none
Graduation: Satisfies one year of the mathematics requirement for WCCUSD graduation
Description: Algebra 1A/1B is a two year course which will cover all topics in a traditional one year Algebra 1 course. The slower pace will allow time for intervention as needed. Upon successfully completing Algebra 1B, the students will receive credit for Algebra 1. Algebra 1A covers solving and graphing linear equations and inequalities, reading and interpreting word problems, and understanding functional relationships using graphs, charts, and tables.

Description: First in series of mathematics courses required for admission to a 4-year college or university. Topics covered include sets, real number system, variables and algebraic expressions, solving and graphing linear equations, and inequalities, polynomials, factoring, rational expressions, application problems, solving quadratic equations and problem solving.

Prerequisite: Algebra 1 with a mark of 'C' or better
Graduation: Satisfies WCCUSD requirement for one year.
Description: Designed for those who would normally have difficulty with the standard course of Geometry. It provides a simple, yet, thorough, introduction to the fundamentals of Euclidean geometry and continues the review of basic algebra. The course does not meet university or college requirement for math and is not the first of a two-year Geometry course.

Prerequisite: Algebra 1 with a mark of 'B' or better; Geometry Concepts with a mark of 'C' or better.
Graduation: Satisfies both WCCUSD and UC/CSU graduation requirement for one year.
Description: Second in a series of mathematics courses required for admission to a university. This course in Euclidean geometry stresses deductive reasoning through geometric proof and covers such topics as congruence, similarity, perpendicularity, parallelism, circles, and the Pythagorean Theorem.

Prerequisite: Algebra 1 and Geometry with mark of 'C' or better.
Graduation: Satisfies both WCCUSD and UC/CSU graduation requirement for one year.
Description: Required for admission to a four-year college or university. Recommended for students who are not planning to major in science or mathematics in college. The course stresses the theory and the applications of linear and quadratic equations, polynomials, radicals, exponents, complex number system, and functions.

Prerequisite: Algebra 1 and Geometry with mark of 'B' or better in both or teacher's permission
Graduation: Satisfies both WCCUSD and UC/CSU graduation requirement for one year.
Description: Required for admission to a four-year college or university. Recommended for students planning to major in science or mathematics in college. This course is the same as Algebra 2 but includes sequences, series, permutations and probability, as well as an extensive unit in trigonometry with an exam.

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation and successful completion of Algebra 2/Trigonometry required. A student who elects to take this course, but whose previous test scores and grades do not support this choice, may ask his/her counselor for a waiver application.
Graduation: Satisfies both WCCUSD and UC/CSU graduation requirement for one year.
Description: Course prepares students for Advanced Placement Calculus in grade 12 or at a college. It is recommended for students planning to major in science, mathematics, engineering, or other technical fields. It covers such topics as trigonometry, vectors, sequences and series; structure of graphing, polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and circular functions; probability and statistics, and tangents to graphs of polynomial functions and relations.

Prerequisite: Teacher recommendation and successful completion of math Analysis required. A student who elects to take this course, but whose previous test scores and grades do not support this choice, may ask his/her counselor for a waiver application .
Graduation: Satisfies both WCCUSD and UC/CSU graduation requirement for one year.
Description: Advanced math course for students planning to continue the study of mathematics at the university level. Topics include analytic geometry, limits, functions and their derivatives, application of derivatives, integration and application of functions, and parametric equations. It is designed to prepare the student to take the Advanced Placement Exam in May. If the exam is passed, the student will earn transferable college credits. Graphing Calculator TI 83-plus or TI 86 needed.

Prerequisite: Standardized test scores in the first quartile on mathematics sections
Graduation: Satisfies WCCUSD elective credit for graduation
Description: Designed to assist students who need to meet the state standards in mathematics.
