• Welcome to the Mathematics Department!

The goal of the math department is to develop our students' reasoning and problem solving abilities. As students progress through the sequence of math courses, we work to develop their academic confidence and ability to engage in productive struggle to solve increasingly challenging and non-routine problems. Students learn to work collaborativel and to effectively commuinicate their mathematical thinking. Our aim is to help students appreciate the field of mathematics and to understand the interconnection between mathematics and the physical and life sciences, computer science, and the humanities.

Teachers in the math department work collaboratively to horizontally and vertically align coursework. Each course is designed to increase rigor from one grade level to the next, while supporting and challenging students in acquiring the following outlined in the Common Core Standards.

Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.

    Reason abstractly and quantitatively.

Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.

    Model with mathematics.

    Use appropriate tools strategically.
